A quick sketch done this morning to familiarize myself with the subject. The vase is sitting on a lace scarf but I didn't sketch in all the holes. I took the reference photo a few years ago of red trellis roses in a vase. The viewpoint is looking slightly down on the flowers and vase.

Great rooster, too! Love the range of darks in the background. Really makes the bird glow.
