Mom Canning
Mechanical Pencil
I have a couple of photos of Mom canning which I thought would make a good subject for a painting. Home canning is becoming a lost art. Subjects like this holds lots of nostalgia for me of seeing Mom in the kitchen, canning.
Bucky
Quarter Horse
Mechanical Pencil
Today's practice of Bucky, a quarter horse from a reference photo taken a few years ago. The front legs aren't formed very well on this sketch and the body looks a little thick. I am also going to have to get a close up of Bucky's face. His face (eyes/mouth area) in the photo was hard to read.

They look great Ann. :) I would love to see your painting of your mom canning, that is a lost art, but it has fond memories for me too. My mom always did that when I was a kid. And your horse sketch looks really good. :) Legs are hard! But I think yours look great.
My grandmother and aunt canned. I remember watching them but not helping (too young and too much in the way). I think a full painting or drawing of her canning, showing the equipment and her hands and everything, would be fabulous since this is a wonderful drawing in itself :)
Crystal, thanks! :) We had apple trees planted so Mom could can apples. Plus they are beautiful when in bloom.
Rhonda, isn't it great to have these memories. Oh yes, it would be a full painting. Hopefully, I can start it over the weekend. :)
I think my daughters might wish canning was a lost art. Truth is our summers get rather consumed with it and it is hard work indeed! But the results are very satisfying when you see all those peaches and tomatoes and such lined up on the shelf. A little summer color brought into winter. :)
I love to see your artwork and what you are working on! :)
Ann, I love both of these sketches. The one of your mom canning is going to make a beautiful painting. What a terrific memory of her you will have recorded in a painting. She looks delightful in your sketch.
Your horse sketches are both wonderful. You make me want to do more pencil drawing.
Love them both, Ann. Really drawn to your mom though - such character!
Kerri, thank you. It is wonderful to hear you and your daughters can the summer's bounty. It is lovely to see the jars all filled.
Vernita, glad you enjoyed the sketches. Hope to get to the painting of Mom canning soon.
Thank you Pat. Mom is a very strong woman in the best sense of the word. We are blessed to have her.
